Controversial proposals to build a "gasification incinerator" in Washington have been dramatically halted following a heated exchange at the recent Planning and Highways Committee meeting. This proposed construction project has been dubbed the "Monster Incinerator" by local pressure group No Monster Incinerator In Washington who celebrated the news of the planning refusal.
On their Facebook page they stated they are "Over the moon to bring you the good news that the planning application was rejected". The group however anticipate that firm Rolton Kilbride will appeal the decision with a Rolton Kilbride spokeswoman stating "Naturally, we are very disappointment with the committee's decision".
All councillors on the panel voted to reject the plans, except Coun Mel Speding, who abstained.
